Current and Upcoming Events:

Puppet Show and Workshop! (Saturday, February 22, 2014, 3:00 – 5:00 p.m.)  Children of ALL ages are invited to attend and participate in this free, fun-filled event!  Miss Maggie and Miss Sarah, founders of Hem Haw See & Saw Puppet Troup, will be sharing their puppets and know-how with participants to help them make their own puppets, design their own puppet theaters, and perform their own puppet shows!  The program is FREE and open to children of all ages!

An Afternoon with Rich Engler (Saturday, March 1, 2014, 1:00 – 2:30 p.m.)  If you grew up in Pittsburgh or anywhere in the tri-state area, you’ll remember the name Rick Engler from the number one, Pittsburgh-based, concert promotion firm, DiCesare-Engler Productions!  The first-ever inductee into the Pittsburgh Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, Rich will be joining us in to sign autographs, take photos with visitors, share part of his extensive collection of concert memorabilia, and promote his new book, Behind the Stage Door!  Rich’s book will be available for purchase at the event, and pre-orders will be taken in advance at the Library.

Knitting Club:  Tuesdays, January 7 & 21, 2014, 5:30 – 7:30 pm.  Whether you are new to knitting or a trained professional, this is your chance to knit with friends.  We will be learning traditional knitting as well as loom knitting!  Come learn, brush-up, practice, or just relax with other knitters!  All Ages!

Harry Potter Book Club:  Every Tuesdays from 7-8 p.m.  Join other young adults and teens every Tuesday for the Harry Potter Book Club.  The book selection for this session is the second book of the series:  Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.  A few copies of the book will be available, but please feel free to bring your own!

Every Wednesday Evening:  Millvale Community Library sponsors GED Classes through the Greater Pittsburgh Literacy Council.  For more information, please visit our programming page or click here!

Every Thursday, All Day!  Millvale Community Library has been chosen as a 2013 site for the Children’s Museum’s Mobile Makeshop!  Join Kevin every Thursday to explore your creative side!  Textile Arts, Woodworking, and Electronics are just the beginning of what is available for you to “play” and “create” with!  For more information, click here!

Every Friday, 10:30 – 11:00 a.m.  Infant and Toddler Story Time:  Join Miss Penny for a half-hour of song, stories, and bubbles!  All children, ages birth to pre-school, are welcome to attend with their caregivers.

MCL Solar Tour!  Saturday, October 12, from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.:  Come and check out our new Solar Rooftop!  Find out about solar energy and see it in action at the Millvale Community Library.  Solar prizes will be given out throughout the day, and attendees can participate in solar printmaking and watch solar car races!  Guaranteed fun for the whole family.

Thursday, September 12, 2013 through Saturday, September 14:  MILLVALE DAYS!  C’mon out for Millvale Days and enjoy three days of fun and excitement for the whole family!  The MCL will be open for business during Millvale Days and will be hosting an information table, a 50/50 raffle, a Steeler Memorabilia and Ticket Raffle, and a Flu Shot Clinic, provided by Rite-Aid and co-sponsored by Faith Forward Bible Fellowship (see flyer below for complete details.)

Tuesday, August 13, 2013 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pmPublic Art Bike Tour: North Shore to Millvale

Take a bike tour with the Office of Public Art! The tour starts at the Langley Observatory Clock by R.M. Fischer. We will ride to Millvale along the Allegheny Riverfront Trail to get to St. Nicholas Croatian Catholic Church for a docent led tour of the Maxo Vanka murals.

The ride length will be about 8 miles, round trip.

Friday, August 2, 2013:  Children’s Museum of Pittsburgh’s Woodworking MakeShop at the Millvale Community Library!  Join in the fun as the folks from the Children’s Museum bring their MakeShop to us!  Design and make your own creation out of wood!  The program is FREE and open to children 6-11.  Registration is required.  To register, please click here!

Every Thursday, August 1 – 22, 2013:  Children’s Summer Art Camp.  All children are welcome to join us!  We will be designing and making mosaic garden stones for the Millvale Community Library garden.  All ages are welcome! Every Tuesday, Beginning June 18, 2013:  Teen Reading Club!  Come join the fun as we read “Perks of Being a Wallflower” by Stephen Chbosky and “The Great Gatsby” by F. Saturday, December 22, 2012:  Please join us for a very special event on Saturday, December 22, 2012, between 1:00 p.m. and 10:00 p.m. at Draai Laag Brewing in Millvale.
Draai Laag Brewing Co. is celebrating the grand opening of its Saints and Turncoats Tasting Room, located at 501 East Ohio Street in Millvale, PA. The good folks at Draai Laag will be donating a portion from every beer sold to the Millvale Community Library. Come celebrate the holidays with us and support two great places in Millvale at once!

Monday, May 21, 2012Shaler Area High School’s Spring for the Arts, “Art for Books Event” will be held at the Millvale Community Library from 6:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.  Come join us for an art show and auction, musical entertainment, food and drinks.  Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.  All proceeds benefit the Millvale Community Library and The Adam Schuster (Memorial) Fund.

Wednesday Evenings, May 2 – June 6, 2012, 6:30 – 8:00 p.m.Please join us for a Lifestory Writing Group on Wednesday evenings, from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Developed by Sharon Lippincott, a renowned Pittsburgh author and educator, this six-week program is designed to “allow members to free the flow of memories, develop confidence in their personal writing style, and begin to create their own written legacy of personal history.”  The program is co-sponsored by the Shaler North Hills Library and the Millvale Community Library, and will be held at the Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw, beginning May 2, 2012.

Registration is required.  Please register by calling the Millvale Community Library at 412-822-7081 or the Shaler North Hills Library at 412-486-0211.

Future writing groups will be formed based on the interest demonstrated during this initial offering.

April 23, 2012, 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.:  In conjunction with the 2012 One Book, One Community feature title, This I Believe:  The Stories of Remarkable Men and Women, Shaler North Hills Library and Millvale Community Library will be co-hosting a “This I Believe and Beyond” workshop to engage members of the community to share statements of personal belief.  At each event, participants will put pen to paper and be guided through the process of crafting an essay that reflects their most deeply held personal beliefs. The workshop will be held at Shaler North Hills Library, 1822 Mt. Royal Boulevard, Glenshaw.

This workshop will provide a springboard for writers who wish to participate in the Shaler North Hills Library/Millvale Community Library Lifestory Writing Group, which will be held on Wednesday evenings, beginning in May, 2012.

It’s a PARTY!  Join us at the Library from 8:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m. for a DRYWALL HANGING PARTY!!!!   There will be refreshments and LOTS of drywall (thanks to the folks at the Saxifrage School)!   No experience is necessary.  We can use all of the helping hands we can get!

Tuesdays and Thursdays, June 30 – August 11, 2011

If you have a child, age 6-12, who is interested in coming to storytime, consider our Riverfront Reading Cooperative.  The program is held every Tuesday and Thursday, from 12:30 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at Millvale’s Riverfront Park (location subject to change due to weather and prior booking of the facility).  The program is free.  Prior registration and an adult companion is required.  For more information, call Lisa at (412) 573-9604.
